I was approached by a group of keen sporting individuals that wanted to create a walking football club with an ethos of offering local people aged 50 and over the opportunity to stay involved with the beautiful game.
They wanted an identity that was true to a football club, with a memorable club badge and nickname that will embrace any discrimination towards age. As walking football is new to the sporting scene, this was a perfect opportunity for the club to create its own legacy.
Through research and development, it was decided that a fox was a strong avenue to explore that could incorporate links between football prowess, age, confidence and cunning wit. An identity was created that was memorable and the nick name “The Silver Foxes” has been embraced in the walking football community with many formations of other clubs following the same model.
With the invaluable support from the Middlesex County FA, the club has received a rapid increase in the number of participants of all abilities, is tireless in its contributions to the community through charity work and is successful in many of the tournaments it competes in. The club has also recently become an FA Charter Standard Club and a partner of the Queens Park Rangers Community Trust.
